Creating a merchandising
Create and manage merchandising rules to control product sorting and visibility on your e-commerce site. This tutorial shows you how to use AB Tasty's merchandising builder to influence product rankings and promote specific items.
Prerequisites
Before creating merchandising strategies, ensure you have:
An active AB Tasty account with Recommendations & Merchandising enabled
Your product catalog connected to AB Tasty
Understanding of your product categories and business priorities
Admin or editor permissions in your AB Tasty workspace
Access the merchandising section
Navigate to the merchandising area to view and manage your strategies.
Log in to your AB Tasty dashboard
Click Merchandising in the left sidebar navigation
View your existing merchandising strategies in the main table

The merchandising table displays all your active and inactive strategies with their unique identifiers, creation dates, and management options.
Create a new merchandising strategy
Start building your merchandising strategy using the strategy builder.
Click CREATE MERCHANDISING in the top right corner
The merchandising builder opens as a new page

The merchandising builder provides custom rules tools on the left and a configuration area for defining your merchandising logic.
Name your merchandising strategy
Give your strategy a descriptive name that indicates its purpose and target.
Click Name your merchandising strategy at the top of the builder
Enter a clear, descriptive name (e.g., "Summer Sale Promotion" or "Category Page Boosting")
Use naming conventions that help identify the strategy's business objective
Strategies names should clearly indicate what products or categories the merchandising rules target.
Configure merchandising custom rules
Apply custom rules to control how products are sorted and displayed.
From the CUSTOM RULES section, you can apply:
Filter: Include or exclude specific products based on criteria
Sort: Define product ranking based on attributes (price, popularity, ratings)
Blocks: Group products into specific sections
Limit: Cap the number of products displayed
Min: Set minimum product requirements
If: Apply conditional logic based on context
Pin: Fix specific products to certain positions
Merchandising: Apply rules of another merchandising strategy
Drag custom rule from the left panel to the main configuration area
Configure each custom rule's parameters
Layer multiple custom rules to create complex merchandising logic
Set up product filtering
Use filters to define which products your merchandising rules affect.
Common filter criteria:
Product categories (electronics, clothing, home goods)
Price ranges (budget, mid-range, premium)
Brand names or manufacturer
Inventory status (in stock, limited quantity)
Product attributes (size, color, material)
Performance metrics (sales volume, ratings)
Drag Filter custom rule to the configuration area
Select filter criteria from dropdown menus
Define filter values (specific categories, price ranges, etc.)
Test filter logic with your product catalog
Configure product sorting
Define how products should be ranked within your merchandising rules.
Sorting options:
Price (ascending or descending)
Popularity (based on views or purchases)
Revenue generated
Product ratings or reviews
Release date (newest or oldest first)
Inventory levels
Custom business priority scores
Add Sort custom rule to your strategy
Select primary sorting criteria
Add secondary sorting for tie-breaking
Choose ascending or descending order
Pin important products
Use pinning to fix specific products to prominent positions.
Add Pin custom rule to your strate
Select products to pin by ID, name, or attributes
Define pin positions (1st, 2nd, 3rd position, etc.)
Configure pin behavior (always show, show if available)
Pinned products override normal sorting rules and appear in specified positions regardless of other criteria.
Preview your merchandising
Review how your merchandising rules affect product display.
Click PREVIEW to see the results of your merchandising
