Getting started with AB Tasty Search

This tutorial guides you through the initial setup and configuration of AB Tasty Search. You will learn how the AB Tasty team prepares your search environment and how to configure the core search settings to match your catalog and customer needs.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A signed contract with AB Tasty for the Search product

  • An active AB Tasty account

  • Access to your product catalog (linked to Recommendations & Merchandising product)

  • Administrative permissions in the AB Tasty interface

Understand the initial setup process

The AB Tasty team completes the initial setup after your contract is signed. This process includes four key actions:

  • Connecting search to your product catalog by associating the correct Recommendations & Merchandising site ID in the account configuration

  • Configuring search requests to route to the appropriate search server hosts

  • Enabling the search widget in the technical database

  • Opening access to search features in your AB Tasty interface

Steps

1

Access the search configuration menu

Navigate to the search configuration interface:

  1. Log in to your AB Tasty account

  2. Go to https://app2.abtasty.com/search/analytics

  3. Locate the Configuration section in the navigation menu

The system provides default settings that are already functional. However, you can customize these settings to better align with your specific catalog and customer search behavior.

2

Configure searchable attribute priorities

Searchable attributes define which product catalog fields the search engine analyzes to match visitor queries. The ranking order determines the importance of each attribute in the matching assessment.

To configure searchable attributes:

  1. Locate the Searchable attribute priorities section

  2. Review the default setting (Title in position 1)

  3. Click the drop-down menu or inside the attributes bar to view all available attributes from your product catalog

  4. Add relevant attributes such as:

    • Product description

    • Categories

    • Colors

    • Any attributes frequently used in customer search queries

  5. Drag and drop attributes to adjust their ranking priority

The higher an attribute appears in the list, the stronger its influence on search result matching. Position your most important attributes at the top.

As shown below, you can see the interface for managing searchable attributes.

3

Set filterable attributes

Filterable attributes allow visitors to refine search results on your website interface.

To configure filterable attributes:

  1. Navigate to the Filterable attributes section

  2. Click the drop-down menu to view available attributes

  3. Select attributes that visitors commonly use to narrow their search, such as:

    • Price

    • Main product categories

    • Brand

    • Size

    • Color

    • Material

The default configuration includes no filterable attributes. Add the attributes that align with your product catalog structure and customer filtering behavior.

4

Define sortable attributes

Sortable attributes enable visitors to reorder search results based on specific criteria.

To configure sortable attributes:

  1. Go to the Sortable attributes section

  2. Review the default setting (Relevance)

  3. Add additional sorting options such as:

    • Price (ascending and descending)

    • Novelty or release date

    • Customer ratings

    • Popularity

Select sorting options that match your customers' preferences and your business priorities.

5

Select displayable attributes

Displayable attributes determine which product information the search engine returns in response to queries. These attributes are essential for rendering search results in your website interface.

To configure displayable attributes:

  1. Access the Displayable attributes section

  2. Review the default attributes (id, title, link, img_link, price)

  3. Add supplementary attributes to enrich product display, such as:

    • Product ratings

    • Number of reviews

    • Brand name

    • Brief product description

    • Availability status

    • Discount information

These attributes will be available when displaying search results through the AB Tasty search widget or custom implementation.

6

Review ranking rules

Ranking rules define how the core search engine algorithm prioritizes products in search results.

Navigate to the Ranking rules section to view the default configuration. AB Tasty recommends maintaining the default ranking rules due to their significant impact on search result quality and relevance. Modify these rules only if you have specific business requirements and understand the implications.

7

Add synonyms if needed

Synonyms help the search engine match visitor queries with relevant products, even when visitors use different terminology than your product descriptions. However, adding synonyms is not necessary when semantic search is active (which is the case by default) because similar meanings will be understood by AI.

To add synonyms:

  1. Go to the Synonyms section

  2. Click Add synonym or the equivalent action button

  3. Enter the primary term and its synonyms

  4. Save the synonym group

Examples of useful synonym groups:

  • "sneakers, trainers, running shoes"

  • "couch, sofa, settee"

  • "mobile, smartphone, cell phone"

Add synonyms based on your product catalog terminology and regional language variations your customers use.

As shown below, you can manage your synonym configurations.

8

Save your configuration

After completing all configuration changes:

  1. Review your settings across all sections

  2. Click Save or Save configuration to apply your changes

  3. Verify that a confirmation message appears

Your search configuration is now optimized for your catalog and ready for campaign deployment.

You have successfully configured the core settings for AB Tasty search. Your search engine is now tuned to match your product catalog structure and customer search behavior.
